You CAN Do It!

This is my story, and yours too.

At one point in my life I started to feel that I wasn’t good enough to achieve what I wanted. I want to tell you, that the thought was WRONG! If you have thoughts like that sometimes, don’t let them bully you into thinking you are not worth anything.

I have suffered from anxiety and depression for around 10 years so I know that sometimes these thoughts stay with you for long after you even felt that way. I want you all to know that you can achieve whatever you put your mind to, and NOTHING can stop you from achieving your goals.

I have always had a passion for web development, it's my job after all. I had always wanted to get into PHP & SQL development (getting things to and from a database). I had no idea where to start and thought I'd NEVER achieve it.

Then a site I LOVED went down and I thought this is my chance to do something, something that I'd always wanted. So I started to create Virtual Canines.

We are now 3–4 months into the project, it's been rebuilt twice. Currently is having a make-over because it just looked awful. But there are so many features I never thought I could do. And now, it's doing all these wonderful things. I even created a messaging system, you know like email? Who knew I could do that? Not me.

I didn’t think I’d be able to build a functional database, use information from a database or store sessions. It never crossed my mind that I was able to do that. Me! I know it’s crazy. We all have moments when we think we won’t or can’t achieve what we want in life, but we can all achieve amazing things whatever it may be.

I always thought I couldn't design ANYTHING, that it was out of my realm. Well I know now that I can. I think I just had to find something I was passionate enough about to do something about it.

I'd always tried and failed to create a portfolio for myself, showcasing the different websites I have built in companies. But apparently that side of me isn't ready just yet. So I'm focussing my attention on a nice little multiplayer game.

I never thought I could build something like this, never dreamed I would be able to do it, and now look. I've built something that I am so proud of, that I tell my friends and family about, that I show to people and add to my personal portfolio.

Once you've found your passion, you will find it easier to achieve whatever you want. It's not always smooth sailing and there will be bumps in the road. But I promise you, you can do anything you put your mind to.

You are capable in ways you probably don’t even realise, you don’t have to let any disability or illness get in your way of doing the things you want to do. There are so many things the mind and body can do, you can overcome things :D

I found that using resources like Google and Books helped me figure the path I wanted to take, having friends and family who support you is also a massive help. You will always find that there is a passion in you and you will figure a way to do what you want. Once you get started you will feel like there is nothing you cannot achieve.

You are the master of your own story, remember that. You don't have to be the hero, you don't have to be perfect. No one requires that of you. Just be you, work hard and you will achieve what you set out to. Practise every day, take breaks when it's too hard. You'll find when you come back that you have no idea why anything was that hard.

The best source of power is YOU! And YOU can do ANYTHING!

Images below are of the AMAZING achievements I have made. What can you achieve?

Account Overview Design

This page was the first page I decided to design with the all new power of "I can do it" rather than "I can't do it, I'm rubbish at that." You know changing your way of thinking can really help.

Single Dog Page Design

This is one of the later pages that I designed and built. I realised that my initial design was pretty good, but needed some further tweaking in development, so I built it to the specifications I needed and now I am proud of the work I have achieved.
