When Work Goes from Great to Hell

Work was great until two people were hired and nepotism/favoritism started (true story of my life).

So I work at the mall in a little store that advertises things for companies. So, I've only been here for a month and work was great! Great hours, great environment, etc. We started to hire new people three weeks back (and this is where it gets great). One main thing with this job: It is mandatory to work Saturdays!—which, because you only work for four to five hours, is fine with me. So this new hire somehow got her way out of ever working on Saturday (which of course pissed the supervisor and me off). Well, this new hire also somehow moved her way up from recruiter to supervisor within a week, too, and that makes no sense to me!!! I mean, if Iwere hiring people and moving people up the ladder in a company I'd make sure they meet all requirements. If they don't, then I guess you're stuck where you're at—until you prove you're worth the position, at least. Am I right or am I wrong?!

So, as time goes on—and while we have CORPORATE in the building, mind you—this girl somehow gets her boyfriend hired. Now, normally I don't care if someone does this because, I mean, as long as you respect the work environment then it shouldn't be a problem, right? Because—let's be honest here—nepotism sucks. This girl somehow managed to pull a fast one on corporate!

...AND THEY DON'T KNOW IT YET!

Anyways, since the two of them have gotten hired, our boss has been playing the favoritism card... VERY hard. For example, the girl doesn't want to work on weekends, so she lies, therefore getting them off. The girl wants her boyfriend hired, so she tells the boss, and BOOM, BABY! He's hired on the spot: no interview. Nothing. Yet for some reason my man can't even participate in our job and what we do because we're engaged. We also think she is stealing money from the company because when she works alone until someone comes in to close, money always goes missing. The person who normally closes I'm always with, and even I don't know the codes; also, I know he would never steal. Yet she doesn't get in trouble or fired. Now that the two of them are hired, her boyfriend and she have more hours than the other supervisor who's been there for a year. Oh my gawd! Nepotism is still a thing that happens! She also somehow got a raise and gets paid more than the other supervisor, too. Shocker, right?

So now everything went from a happy work environment and me being OK with work to dreading work and barely making 15 hours (even though before I was making 35+ hours) a week. Also—one last thing—the boyfriend had the balls to throw me under the bus for things that I didn't do and then proceeded to yell at me about letting a supervisor know they were dating. He may think we're friends but I really wish he'd leave me alone.

Update time!

So today is August 24, and well, today the job got better... In a bad way. So, there is another worker, who for whatever reason decided that he'd have an attitude with me. Now, normally I'll ignore this because everyone is nasty towards me at work, but he just likes to push it. He has been getting so rude to the point that respondents (also known as our customers) have pulled me aside and asked if he's always that rude. CUSTOMERS SHOULD NEVER HAVE TO ASK THIS!!! Of course, I smooth it over and tell them no, he's just started acting this way, maybe he's having a rough week... I don't know... But to top all off, he's rude to the respondents themselves. So tell me how I'm the bad guy. How am I the bad worker? It's funny when people ask for me and ask that I do their surveys, though. And it's all because they don't like the other workers. Gee, I wonder why??? My boss even acted like I wasn't there today and would talk about me as if I wasn't standing right there! How mature... am I right? Long story short, I think I'm going to call corporate and find another job. This just isn't working for me and I don't think anyone deserves to be treated the way I am at work.
