The Joy of Buying Art Supplies as an Artist

Being an artist is one of the greatest things I have ever done in my life.

"I've got gadgets and gizmos a plenty, I've got whozits and whatsits galore. You want thingamabobs? I've got twenty! No big deal I want more!!" Fitting isn't it? Ha!

Where do I even begin? Buying art supplies for a new project or just to restock on your collection can become very addicting so beware!

I find myself always making a trip every few months for new art supplies because I am an artist. Not a professional by any means nor do I make money off of any of my pieces. All my pieces I have done so far were either just things to pass the time or for someone's birthday or for Christmas.

I would absolutely be open to selling my pieces one day and being able to share my work with the world. I just don't know where to start in order to begin the process of making art for a living. I post pictures of my art from time to time on some social media platforms but that's as close as I get to it becoming a career or making a business out of it.

Every visit I make to an arts and crafts store I more than likely am going to walk out the doors with a purchase. You will too if you ever walk in those front doors. You can't argue with me on that because it's true and you know it. Happens to me every single time I walk in to a store. Regardless if you originally planned to buy something or not you still go home with a smile on your face and joy in your heart.

That is until you look at your bank account and notice how much you have left. Then you just might cry a little. Or maybe you'll cry a lot. I sure hope you don't, if you do here's a tissue box just in case.

Whenever I but art supplies for my pieces that I work on I have to look for specific supplies. For example if I am doing something with paint, it has to be the right kind of texture and the right color of paint in order for it to work. I am quite picky when it comes to my art.

One of my favorite parts of going to a crafts store is the moment you walk in the automatic doors of an arts and crafts store you are immediately drawn in. The smell of all the fake flowers, paint and whatever knick knacks are on sale for half off. You don't know where to start. Just go to wherever you see something that catches your eye. If you are anything like me you will be drawn to absolutely everything in the store. So that decision kinda makes it harder to not spend hours on end in the store.

Browsing through the aisles and seeing all the neat stuff you could do possible DIYs one day just puts you in a really good mood. It's like your mind just shuts off when you're in there and it is a really good feeling. Not having to think for a half hour at the most? Pure bliss.

Taking home a bag full of arts and craft goodies is simply so satisfying even if it does put a small or huge dent in your wallet. It'll be well worth it because you get to make something absolutely wonderful with what you bought. Even if you don't think that your art is any good and that it looks like a child did it. Don't think like that. Your art is part of who you are as a person. Think of it as you are making up your own entire style of art that no one can come close to recreating.

Stop putting yourself down when it comes to your art. Take a few deep breaths and relax. If you aren't happy with what you have made go back and start over. Everything will be just fine and no matter what the outcome of your art project. You are still you and the style of art you created is your own and no one can take that from you ever. Keep a smile on that beautiful face of yours!
