Story Telling My Creative Self

How did I get into creative writing?

I was an odd child back then. I don't know what I would do when I grow up. The first thing I would do is to grow up and become a scientist, specifically an astronomer, but my dream to become an astronomer didn't happen. My second passion is to become a creator, and I'm in college studying media design. It is a fun program and it embraces creativity. However, I am more technical than I am creative. The only way that I would express myself is creative writing.

When I was 7, I was interested in stories. My very first story I wrote is about a man and a horse. When I wrote that story, I imagined the ending that the man ended up in the hospital and the horse went to jail. It sounds very weird to a lot of people, but it was kind of funny. Thankfully, nobody knew that it was me who made the story.

During elementary years, my handwriting was very sloppy. My parents insisted that I should write down random books and articles on paper to improve my handwriting. Turns out that it worked really well. My handwriting improved and I was able to write on the line instead of going all over the lined paper. I learned a bit of cursive when I was in third and fourth grade.

Since my handwriting has drastically improved after my elementary years, I began to write stories on my own time. I created a story called "The Adventure Time Warp," which is about a race based on history. Sadly, I didn't get a chance to complete it after seventh grade.

Most of my spare time is in creative writing. I was introduced to journal writing when I was in eighth grade. I kept the eighth-grade journal as one of my accomplishments. Sadly, I didn't get a perfect grade on any of the monthly journal entries that I've done. But those journal entries I have done gave me the motivation to write daily journal entries. In 2015, I have documented my life during that year. I was planning to do daily journal entries for 2016, but I lost my journal while I was there. 2016 was one of the most productive years I have ever gone through and sadly, I didn't document the entire thing.

When it comes to story writing, I make up scenarios that are playing in my head. Whether it came from real life or something random that pops up from my mind, I would create a story or a thought based on those ideas. The problem I have is that I couldn't finish all of them because of school and mentality problems occurring in my life. However, one of my coping methods is writing. I write a lot of random thoughts on paper or online.

I write thoughts and stories down because of a few things.

One: I get bored from either doing tedious work or I've got nothing to do. I always get bored by repeating my daily routine. Although, it's not too bad. Sometimes unexpected things happened right in front of my eyes. But I also have nothing to do if I finish all of my stuff. Writing keeps me motivated and productive throughout the day.

Two: I always find ideas from either my head or what happens in real life. The stories I created were from my life in a different world; a world where I was confident, successful, and fearless. It's not easy doing that in real life, but it is possible with a lot of determination.

And three: It helps me focus on what I do. When it comes to essays, a paragraph, or something involving creative writing, I focus on writing or typing the idea I thought about. It also helped me with my communication problem because I tend to stutter a lot when I speak. If I write an important thing down, it'll be easier for me to focus on the important things I need to do. Sadly, it doesn't work all the time.

Those were a few things that gave me some benefits based on writing. The point is that these benefits can help me get through with some of my problems based on communication, creation, or concentration. Although, not all of those traits help me through life. But it would be helpful for me at some point in my life. But this one question came up to mind for me: should I pursue a career in writing?

Maybe I'll find out. It'll surprise me if I do.
