No need to change in order to have aplenty.

Being an empath is different from merely having or expressing empathy. Empaths are attuned on such a level to other people’s feelings that they share physical and emotional responses with the people around them, be that happiness, pleasure, or pain. An empaths life can be overwhelming and exhausting at times, but also lends itself to great insight, compassion and understanding. As such, there are many career paths which suit empaths, and can have a major benefit for the wider community. Let’s look at a few perfect careers for empaths.

Teacher

A great teacher can tap into the inner workings of their student’s minds, find their motivational triggers, and nurture them to succeed. School is such a formative time and environment for young people, and learning is more than just remembering things you read in books. An empath can really help foster a student’s emotional development, can adapt quickly to any behavioral trends or problems, and can set young people on a path to fulfillment, whatever it is they want to do with their lives.

Nurse

Being a nurse is more than just giving injections and taking temperatures, and is a natural vocation for an empath. Caregiving, compassion, helping people who are unwell to go about their days with dignity and comfort, and supporting them emotionally are all a huge part of nursing.

This level of care extends beyond patients to their family and loved ones, who will also benefit from someone so attuned to the human condition. The workplace doesn’t have to be a hospital, empaths are equally suited to working in hospices, in clinics or at home visits. Becoming qualified depends on your location, but there are vocational courses everywhere, and always a need for nurses.

Children’s Advisor

Essentially a guidance counselor role, mentoring and guiding children and young people is ideal for empaths, as they are acutely sensitive to individual needs, even those as complex and confusing as a child’s emotions. Whether that involves helping them to negotiate their studies or to gain a greater understanding of themselves as people, no one is better suited to the task than an empath. If you think that this could be your true calling you can enrol in a diploma course.

Charity Work

Charity work is ideal for empaths, and there are a whole host of different charities to choose from, depending on your own personal areas of interest or conviction. Working to make the world a better place comes in many forms. You might be taking part directly in the charity work, helping people and communities, or you might be on the organizational or administrative side. Charity work can be challenging, as budgets are often tight, and as an empath you may be exposed to suffering more than you would in your day to day life. But with an empath’s level of humanity and compassion, you would be indispensable, so it might well be the right path for you.

Artist

The world needs amazing art that reflects back at us, and makes us aware of issues, be them social or emotional. A great artist sees the world with a unique perspective and can balance themes of conflict and harmony to produce works that tell us something deeper about ourselves, unlocking perceptions we didn’t know were there. A look at the internet will show you how open the art market has become, and now more than ever it is possible to buy works straight from the artist’s studio, rather than through a costly agent or gallery. This has liberated the market for both buyers and artists, and gives the empath artist a unique and direct connection with their audience.

Veterinarian

It isn’t just human emotions that an empath can tune into, they are instinctively aware of animals too. Being unwell and going to the vet is a stressful time for all animals, as they are confused, upset and worried, without being able to comprehend and direct their emotions. Healing and comforting animals is a natural calling for any empath, and so is providing information and comfort to their stressed owners.

Some career paths are well suited to empaths, as they often prefer to work in a caring capacity or from home (so as not to be overwhelmed by a busy and stressful office environment). Harnessing your natural gift as an empath takes time and energy but can really benefit those around you, as well as providing you with a profession you can be proud of.
