My Adventures as a Pizza Delivery Driver

I Thought I Was Dead at the Door

It was another regular day, as I found myself working, delivering pizzas. I have given up on the fact that no matter how good your day could be going, still, something could go wrong, and it did.

First of all, let me say this, delivering pizzas is not as easy as some people might think that it is. You never know what is going to happen when you arrive at a customer’s location and when the delivery drivers have more than one order in their car, something is bound to happen. I put location because I deliver to not only residential houses, I go to hotels, motels, the airport, the mall, and office buildings. You think you know your local area of town? Go deliver some pizzas. In the year and a half that I have been delivering pizzas, I have learned where a lot of locations are now, that I was not aware of before I started working.

Also, I have discovered several new shortcuts to take on the roadways. I have also gotten lost numerous times. Some customers are not to be found anywhere when you arrive at where they say that they are. Most of the customers that order pizza are friendly at the door, but some people, I guess just want their food and that is it. I try my best to deliver fresh hot pizzas to people, but when the store is busy, it sure makes it difficult on the delivery drivers. I always hope for the best when I arrive at any of my locations when I am delivering pizzas. Plus I am as nice as I can possibly be at any of my customer's locations where ever that I may have to deliver a pizza too.

I get to my customer’s location, and when this man came to his door, he had a super duty vape cigarette and he exhaled as soon as the door opened, all of that vapor went right in my face. My first thought was, oh I am dead. This man just blew something on me and he is going to drag me inside and torture me and kill me. Just seconds later, I smelled some kind of a fruit smell and realized what the fog was that had met me at his front door. As soon as I noticed something coming at me, I immediately started waving one of my arms frantically, while still holding the customer's order with my other arm. I hope that I let that customer know that what he just did when he opened his front door to receive his food, that I did not appreciate it at all. I can not remember if this man's order was credit card or cash, but I was at his location longer than I needed to be because he had to vape on his electronic cigarette at his front door. Either way, I either had to get his signature if it was a credit card order, or if it was a cash order, I had to collect the money. Maybe he just did not realize what that he had done, or to his knowledge, he did nothing wrong at all. His house, his rules. His pizza or pizzas that he had ordered that day, was probably shaken up a bit.

Luckily, for my sake, it was just vape cigarette fog that greeted me in the face at the door that day. This happened several months ago, and still to this day, I cannot release that from my memory bank. This was one of the most freighting experiences that I have ran across delivering pizzas since I have been at my job for over a year now.
