Returning to the same workplace after resigning can be bewildering as a lot of things go on in one's mind. The person might even be skeptical as he/she might think that going back to a previous workplace can raise unnecessary questions, and they may have to experience discrimination and mistreatment. However, the current trend points out that the employees are open to the idea of returning to their previous jobs. These employees are known as 'boomerang employees'. And according to a study by workplacetrends.com, about 40% of the interviewed companies said they have hired about half of their former employees who have reapplied.

So, it can be inferred that going back to your previous workplace is possible and can be a viable option. Now let us try to figure out reasons why it is a better option.

It can pay off well:

Moving back to your previous job can have more benefits than you think. People generally switch jobs because they are offered a better compensation elsewhere. So moving back to your old job can be a win-win, as it can be helpful in getting a far better compensation than the previous one, and it can also offer you a role at a higher position. So if you think you have put your heart and soul in while working over there previously and have the ability to prove your mettle once again, the company won't hesitate in offering you a better deal and may land you in the same place with a better pay.

It can be a homecoming:

Just as mentioned earlier about most individuals switching their jobs being lured by a high salary than their current one, sometimes, such a move proves regretful. It doesn't pan out well for them in every case as they are mired into other problems, such as belligerent co-workers, toxic environment, and an abusive boss. So even if they receive a fat paycheck at the end of the month, they are still not satisfied. So for such employees, returning to their jobs can be a silver lining as it can be a homecoming from a refugee land. It can be a reunion with your ex-colleagues and friends and can be an opportunity to rejoice. Besides that, it can boost their overall morale as they are moving back to a familiar place instead of being around complete strangers.

It can help in reinforcing your connections:

Networking happens to be a critical tool in everyone's career. Working professionals always need assistance in one way or the other, given the rapid change in the dynamics of various professions, and uncertainty in the job markets. So individuals leaving their current job may lose contact with the people in their professional network. For such people, returning back to their previous workplace can be a plus as it will reinforce their connections and help them in maintaining those relations in the long-run.

You won't be oblivious to the environment:

Returning to your previous workplace will save you extra time and effort to get acquainted with the work culture and make new friends. Also, working at a familiar place will give a clear idea beforehand about what you are getting into, and if you were happy previously over there, there are chances that you will be happy again. So working in a familiar environment can help you in staying positive and improve your productivity.

So, for candidates who are in a dilemma about resuming work with their former employer, it is worth noting that both employees, as well as employers, are willing to accept this new development. The benefits of taking that decision are mentioned above. But despite the benefits, it is advisable to evaluate their situation based on all the factors at play and then only make any decision.
