In short, the answer to this question is… VERY. Still not convinced? Here are 5 reasons that social media is extremely important for a business and how it can ultimately lead to the success of your company.

Advertise using social media.

Social media is a relatively new concept, but has already had a major impact as most people now use at least one social media site, it is increasingly being used by companies to advertise their company. Traditional advertising can cost companies a lot of money and while there is most definitely still a place for varying advertising styles, social media can still be just as effective. Having social media profiles is free advertisement for your company, as your followers will be reminded of you every time you post. Most social media platforms also offer paid advertisements, where you can create an advert and pay for it to be shown to people, even those that don’t follow you. You are allowed to customise this advert to be shown to a particular group of people who may have an interest in your company. As most people these days have at least one social media account, it is making it one of the best means to advertise on and can lead to a lot of successful leads for your business.

Increase brand awareness and build trust.

A businesses’ success relies on people and other companies using their services and buying their products, so one of the key challenges for a company is making people aware of them. Arguably the most important reason a business should have social media is to increase your brand awareness. Having your brand logo and name posted on multiple social media pages can allow for a better brand recognition as more people will identify with your company and know who you are. Posting regularly gives you more of a chance to gain followers and in turn potential customers. This makes it a great free tool to advertise your company and allow for more people to see your posts about new products, events or services. Many people use social media in order to check that a business is legit and trustworthy, as well as letting them get a feel of the company and see the personality of the brand. If you don’t have a social media presence, this can hinder your success as many people will not use a company unless they have some sort of online existence.

Learn about your customers.

Social media is a great way to learn more about your customers; looking at their online behaviour and what they are interested in, can offer you a lot of intelligence about what sort of thing your company should be doing and offering to bring in those customers. Social platforms including Facebook and Twitter allow users to post polls, that make it even easier and simpler to ask followers questions and get their opinion. All this can mean you have an insight into what people really want and in turn can improve your business, bringing in more revenue in the end. Social media is also a great place to get feedback from current and potential customers. You can do this by asking them questions and opening up discussions, as well as looking in the comment sections of your post to find out what they want and what they think is and isn’t working for your company. Searching competitors on social media can also show you what’s working well for them and what sort of posts are getting them better responses, giving you a good insight into the competition and how to get ahead of them.

Use it for customer service and form relationships with your audience.

There is nothing more annoying than having to ring up customer services and be on the phone for ages trying to get help. Social media is now allowing companies to manage some of their customer service quickly and easily, with people being able to post questions or direct message the company, which is often a lot easier and quicker for them than sending an email or calling, leading to higher customer satisfaction. Social media also gives you the opportunity to offer discounts and events exclusively to the users that follow you, giving people an incentive to follow you and be more satisfied with your company, helping you have a positive connection with your customers. Interacting with your followers and customers regularly allows you to form relationships with them and will increase customer satisfaction and loyalty.

SEO

Although social media doesn’t directly affect SEO, it does have factors that can help improve it. Having multiple social media sites allows for more back links to your website that helps improve ranking. Google ranks your blog posts and website higher if it can see you are a credible source, so the more people that link back to you, via these social media sites, the better. Furthermore, social media profiles rank high in search engine results, so with your website and social profiles ranking higher, it will increase your chances of being noticed and clicked on. The more followers and likes your profile has, the higher it will appear in the rankings, so increasing your audience is a great way to appear at the top of searches. Google unsurprising likes seeing users post on Google Plus, so posting regularly on there can actually improve your SEO for Google.
