Employee Travel Tips

There’s nothing like traveling, exploring, and there’s no learning like that in traveling. Seeing places, meeting people, experiencing cultures—it opens up our minds to larger ideas and understanding of the world. The better a person can understand new people, cultures, ideas, and adapt to different surroundings, the better a leader he/she can become. That’s what all organizations aim for, don’t they? They want their employees to come up with better ideas, work better, and be able to lead and manage people.

Apart from the fact that traveling opens up the mind to new ideas, traveling also relaxes and rejuvenates a person, getting him/her ready to face new challenges. This is especially beneficial for employees who work in stressful situations.

Here are some tips on how organisations can ensure that their employees travel often.

1. Make it a part of the work culture.

Make travelling a part of the work culture by taking your employees out for team building exercises and activities. Instead of conducting team building activities in the office or in the same city, take them out for a trip. This will not only be more fun but also give the employees a chance to explore a new place which will motivate them to travel more. It’s common knowledge that a person who travels more is happier and if your employees are happier, they will work better.

2. Give them discounted deals.

Tie up with travel companies to give your employees discounted deals on air tickets, hotel accommodations, transport etc. This will encourage employees to use the deals and make more travel plans. You should also give them travel coupons and tickets as a birthday or anniversary gift, so that they feel encouraged to travel.

3. Share travelling experiences.

Ask those employees who travel often to share their experiences with the rest of the team members and talk about how it has made a difference in their lives. If employees hear their colleagues talk about how travelling has affected their lives for the better, they will have an example to follow, which will push them to explore travelling more often.

4. Annual Trips

Organisations can plan annual trips with their office employees to an undiscovered place that none of the employees have visited or seen before. This will make for a great stressbuster for the entire team and they will have a lot of fun too. When employees experience how travelling can change you as a person, they will want to do it more often.

5. Keep a vacation tracker.

This one would require the human resources department to do some hard work. Develop a system of tracking the vacations of an employee. If an employee has not taken a vacation for a long time, push him/ her to do so and ask them to take leave and travel. Explain to them how it’s important for employees to destress themselves from time to time and so they must take a vacation soon.

6. Appreciate an employee’s travel.

A lot of employees feel guilty about taking a break or going on a vacation because they believe that in the professional world it means that you’re not serious about your job. Each time an employee travels or takes a vacation, appreciate it and encourage it. Don’t make an employee feel guilty for taking a break, everyone needs one from time to time.

So, the next time an employee wants to go on a vacation or hiking, encourage it.

Conclusion

Employees who travel will work better in a diverse team, be able to lead better and be able to think out of the box. The learnings that one acquires during travel are very useful and applicable in different circumstances of life. So, in short, traveling will make your good employees better and the organization, a happier one with hardworking and smart employees.
