Dealing with Co-Workers

Is this normal? Are all workplaces like this?

Dealing with co-workers has been a nightmare for me. I have ADHD so stopping my self from yelling at people at work has been a constant struggle for me, especially when the manager loses his cool at work all the time. So how can I get by?

Unfortunately being calm, collected, and overall professional is very important at work ... even when quitting or being asked to leave. I really wish I could day there were exceptions to the rule, but I there really aren't. If they are doing something illegal like not paying you, you have to go to a lawyer.

At my job the women were older, like I'm talking having wrinkles and grey hair kind of older. I use to think older co-workers would make things easier because they would be more mature... but that wasn't the case. One of the older girls was yelled at by the general manager for stealing tips and the other apparently was only nice to your face.

My current job has been a weird roller coaster of emotions when it came to dealing with my co-workers... who are all roughly young and the same age as me. My first shift was with a super awesome nice person! ...who got fired the next for getting too drunk in the pub after her shift... My next day I was trained by a young women who was clearly hungover and was talking about how she had casual sex last night. She didn't like me much and I didn't trust her to be sharing tables well enough, so we had a rocky start... but then she really liked me later and I don't really know why.

Soon later I was accused by a third chick for cleaning to much, the first time I have ever been told that I have been cleaning too much. Apparently the problem was that they had already cleaned that area and it was just kind of insulting for me to clean it again because it looked like they hadn't done a good enough job. Anyways, we had a talk while rolling cutlery and that passed too.

Then shit hit the fan. On the night of St. Patricks day, a group of new girls came out of nowhere, they were obviously able to get away with way more bad behaviour than me... they were even taking selfies in front of the guests. One demanded a free dinner and the rest insisted that I should do all the grunt work while they collect all the tips. It took me a little while to figure it out, but I'm pretty sure these girls are family friends of the manager. They told me what to do as if they were the supervisor and if I defended myself they immediately ran to the manager and told on me.

The next day I came in to realize I have way less hours than I used to, but the story gets worse. The bartender who works the shift after me canceled and the manager asked if I could cover the shift (this is actually good news)... then he changed his mind and called in one of the girls that he must know personally. As soon as she sees me, she says in a snare voice "Oh, you're still here." I didn't want to get involved so I just said that I needed to get past her. She looked around for anything I missed or didn't do... since it was a slow day I was able to get lots of the side chores done and she was only able to find one thing. The Canadian beer cans were getting a little low so she said "Before you leave can you re-stock the Canadian?" This may sound nice but it's not, she is establishing dominance. Knowing that I already stocked the entire fridge I said, "I already stocked the fridge" ...then I realized the only reason I didn't restock the Canadian cans was because we are out, and I told the manger that.

However, she immediately went to the manager to snitch on me, so he came back and was upset that I gave her attitude until he remembered that I did tell him we wee out of Canadian.

Finally thinking I'm free I left to do my cash out, I wrote down the math on a tiny little paper because the manager gets mad at us for using too much since it's "wasting money." He walks past and says "oh, thats a mess"... ouch! Sorry my writing isn't pretty, the math is right but whatever don't trust me. So he gets the other girl to count the till again because apparently my writing is too messy, she has to ask what amount it is suppose to be at cause, I don't know I guess she is bad at her job. The manager wants to re-count it over with me and I tell him there is only a 1$ difference between the counts, I say no because there is a 1$ difference. I finally get to leave and then I cry in my car outside.

Here is my advice... and you won't like it. Literally bite your tongue while at work then go home and cry. DO NOT take it out on your spouse, dog or family.

Thank you for reading my article, I really do it helps somehow... maybe it can give you something to relate to... or maybe the advice can actually help you. Either way, thank you for the read.
