What It's Like To Be
From postal worker to film producer, what is it like to do what you do?
Writer Psychological Profiling
An editor friend of mine once said she couldn’t stop psychoanalyzing the writers from the books they wrote. I agree. Writers may write in many points of views and assume many characters at any given time but ultimately the writers write what they know and how they feel. And from those words we read, we get to know the people behind those lines on a deeper level, intellectually and emotionally.
Working on the Go: Quick Tips to Jumpstart Your Freelance Career
Wouldn’t it be nice if we can just wake up whenever we want, get our workload delivered to us, work on it from bed, and then deliver it back to the office? The idea of being able to work remotely – as in, having a dedicated work space anywhere, communicating with coworkers and clients in your pajamas, having your coffee just the way you want it – can seem like a dream come true for some professionals. Who wouldn’t want to just quit the cubicle and work anywhere?

As a new still-life model, I still can't understand how some people keep an inventory of their poses. Maybe they're just super good at memorizing movements, wing it as they go, or have a general sitting pose that they alternate slightly each time they do it.

In the construction industry, there has been a shortage of workers from the last decade. Despite the high wages and highly skilled positions, jobs are going unfilled. Emphasis is put on building strong relationships with younger while training the next generation of electrical workers.
Eric MarshPublished 4 years ago in JournalWho Am I?
At a young age, I felt like an accessory. My best friend played competitive travel soccer, while I cheered on from the sidelines. My cousin performed on elite dance teams, while I applauded from the audience. The list went on and on but I was not on it. I felt incompetent—a hollow, empty mirror, reflecting on the achievements of others without any substance of my own. My dad always told me, “Jaime, you never know when lightening will strike; you have so much to offer.” Then, one day, it happened, and that image shattered forever!

Elley SanthowPublished 4 years ago in JournalAn Actors Conundrum
We actors live in such a conundrum. We chose a profession where our craft requires us to be the art that's on display. A painter, sculptor, poet, and other similar forms of art that are consumed by the public, can personally stand apart from the work they put out. We as actors cannot. We're it. Yet to really do our work well, we also must learn to step away from it. Therein lies the conundrum. How does an actor successfully allow the story they're telling to be front and center, without that nagging self-consciousness of the awareness of being seen creeping in? It's my belief that this is what Stanislavsky, and others before and after him, were in search of. They knew that an individuals default mode was, to put it in the words of Laurence Olivier when Dustin Hoffman asked why he thinks they chose this profession, Olivier replied… “Look at me, look at me, look at me.”

During the spooky season of this year, I had the opportunity to work as a scare actor at 13th Floor Haunted House. The idea of working there for a while came from a combination of casual job searching and the idea that it would bring closure to me as someone who usually can't go through haunted houses without an extreme reaction. No one said being a scare actor would be easy, but there were also good things that came from working there for the season.
Monique StarPublished 4 years ago in JournalTribeca Resident Mirrors the Origins of Human Expression on Buildings Across New York City with His Graffiti
Photo courtesy of Robert Janz Looking across the landscape of New York City and seeing all the graffiti on our buildings could lead to a rather low born opinion. The idle minds behind the scrawls carry a mentality not much more evolved than those of a Neanderthal. 86 year old Robert Janz of Tribeca counts himself among NYC artists who add to the scenery and would not only consider the critique a compliment but sees the perception as pretty insightful.
Rich MonettiPublished 4 years ago in JournalWhen to Use a Pen Name
When I wrote my very first “book,” I had no idea whether or not a single person would buy it. What I did know is that under no circumstances did I want my mom or kids or neighbors to buy it. Not only was the content a bit too steamy for the average grandma next door, but it was also just controversial enough that I wasn’t sure how my employer or the kids’ teachers would respond.
Kris KendallPublished 4 years ago in JournalReason First: Should Law Enforcement Act as Mental Health Care Professionals?
In opioid and heroin usage cases in New Castle County, Delaware, the police have devised a plan to curb the amount of injuries and deaths associated with using certain narcotics and the abuse of prescription drugs. While it would seem odd for an officer to carry a gun and drugs, it’s already happened in other cities. Police often are armed with both a pistol and a canister of naloxone. But what is more disturbing is the fact that they must now become physicians and psychiatrists on the beat. This is unacceptable. The role of police officers is to protect individual lives and property of the citizens of a given area. They are not shrinks with a badge. It is totally improper for the police in New Castle to become healthcare officials.
