All careers have their own specific career challenges which are presented to us as career lessons. We are taught throughout our lives that work is the essence of life, and without a job, we are nothing. We can't provide for ourselves and our family, we don't have a purpose, etc. And while it is true that our careers are a necessary source of income, it is also important for those in the workforce to remember that life is more than just work and and success. Often, career lessons touch other areas of your life, including family, friends and relationships.

As work is often intertwined with your personal life, it is important to grasp the career lessons people learn too late and tackle those lessons early on. From the importance of team work and your health to the emphasis on constantly learning, people who absorb these lessons sooner rather than later will be happier, both in and out of the office.

Socialize for success.

Social networks are very healthy and important. It is not only a way to learn new things but also the proven most efficient way to gain experience from other people's life. You get a chance to see things in many people's perspectives and learn other people's way of life among them, other careers lessons. Studies show that successful people have a very strong social network, as success requires lots of skills which would be impossible to learn all by yourself in a lifetime. Attending social networking events for your field can help you find colleagues and mentors, as well as find people who have insight from their own experiences within your line of work.

Health versus wealth.

Your health is important because without your health, how can you work? Many people are tirelessly overworking themselves, unable to balance work and life and soon they develop unrecoverable health conditions, not to mention just the stress and fatigue that can accompany the every day busy schedule. It is very simple to maintain your health and can be expensive to recuperate. You should take strategies to keep your body fit, keep off stress and most importantly avoid overworking your body by having enough rest and quality food.

Life is short.

Going to a job or career that you don't enjoy can truly impact your quality of life. Life is too short to walk into an environment that does not feed your soul. As a person in the workforce, you will most likely spend more time in the office than away from it. As a result, liking the people, place, and purpose of your career is important. Working 40+ hours a week in a place that doesn't satisfy you will leave you feeling unhappy and frustrated. This feeling can translate to other areas of your life, and affect relationships with others.

Teamwork is important.

Teamwork with colleagues is a way for you all to share ideas, work out career challenges and, most importantly, help make your career more fascinating. Teamwork is a very important career lesson because alone you can walk fast but with teamwork, you will walk for long. It is okay to ask for help from team members and it is imperative that you are available when team members seek your counsel. Being a team member can also translate to other aspects of your life, as a spouse, friend, and family member.

Experience life outside of work.

There is so much happening everyday outside of the office with family, friends, your community and the world that you must remember to get out of there and experience life outside of the office. Avoid taking work home with you when possible and really enjoy your time out of the office. Of course duty calls, but when it doesn't, spend time indulging in your hobbies, spending time with family and friends or reading a good book. Having a healthy work-life balance can improve your overall health and well being, inside and outside of the office.

Don't ever stop learning.

Soak up all the new information you can, about the world, your field of work, and even other careers. Even after achieving your career, keep the morale to learn new things within your career. If you have a notion that you are done with learning just because you have attained your career you will be left behind in a matter of years. When confronted with new age situations or challenges, you may not be able to cope or solve for it with your old techniques. Keeping your mind engaged will help you act according to career lessons and therefore, elevate your career and knowledge.

Diversify your learning.

Be diversified in learning, socializing and general thinking. Do not spend so much time learning what you already know. Instead find new ideas and try to know how they can relate to your career, this is the source of the new ideas you need to make your career better. Taking a holistic approach on learning and soaking up all the knowledge you can will help you be more well rounded. Additionally, you may be able to take this learning experience and apply it to your career, whether you realize it or not.

Let go of the stress.

Woosa! Easier said than done, I know, but in place of being stressed or worried, be creative and vigilant. Be confident in your choices in and outside of the office. When possible, leave work at work, and use the time away from the office to decompress and approach the situation the next day with a clearer outlook and perspective. Stress can distract you from the task or project at hand and can ultimately lead to you not working and performing to your highest potential. By allowing yourself to be burdened with stress, you are creating an endless loop in your brain and body of fatigue, anxiety, and more. Take a breather for a few and remind yourself that you are a hard worker who is doing all they can at that moment.

Embrace the journey.

Learn that happiness is not the destination but rather the journey. Embrace your career journey to your dream destination, as well as your journey in your personal life. Though there will be trials and tribulations in both aspects of your life, there is also so much good. In work, there is so much to be learned and in your personal life, there is so much to be enjoyed. Take on the journey of both life and work with open eyes and an open heart.

Don't fear failure.

Failure is most useful when viewed as a lesson learned. Also, failing once doesn't mean failure for life. Life is not without failure, it is how you deal with the failure that matters the most. Failure can be a second chance or a new start. The prosperous scientists, business people and the leaders of the world tried and failed several times but never lost hope.
