What Having No Friends Taught Me About Myself
I recently bumped into an old friend—a friend I hadn’t seen in years. The last time we saw each other, we were in high school. We were planning what we were going to wear to the next house party, crushing on cute boys, and going to first period together. Fast forward to today, I worked in the city and so did she. This was all I knew about this girl, this girl I was inseparable with 10 years ago.

I’m Someone Who Never Says "No" and I Hate It
I'm that person who always, always, alwaysssss says yes to everything. Even to things I do not want to do, or that I know will hinder me from doing other things. Does this sound like you? This was why it was so hard for me to say "no." Let’s take a deep dive, shall we?

Vulnerability: It’s a Beautiful Thing
I met him when we were in our mid-20s. When I first met him I couldn't believe how full of life he was and the love he had for everything. I quickly found myself constantly asking, “Where has this man been all my life?” He was that person that could turn the most horrible situation to one that was pleasant in an instant. He had this charisma about him that lit up the room. Everyone loved being around him because of his contagious and electric personality. Not to mention the most beautiful eyes that could swallow you whole. I continuously found myself getting lost in them and his smile—a half grin short and sweet so that he wouldn’t give me his all—so I’d keep yearning for more and more of him.

I Needed a Creative Outlet—and This Is Why You Need One Too
I have a morning routine: Catch the same train at the same time, sit in the same seat, drinking my coffee that I make for myself in the mornings, and listening to my music that drowns out the chatter from the people around me. I go to my 9 to 5 and then take the same train back home, at the same time sit, in the same seat... you know the drill. I am a creature of habit and patterns. I just need structure and rules. However, over a period of time, this just wasn't the case anymore.

I Did a Digital Detox—and It Was Nothing Like I Expected
Now, I will start off by saying this wasn’t planned at all. I forgot my phone in my friends car on my way to catch the train. I had two minutes to decide whether I go back and try to catch her (and potentially miss this train which, would make me wait 15 minutes for the next one) OR just suck it up and go the whole day phone-less. I chose the latter.
