Adulting Is Hard!

Young Adult's Point of View

Adulting... a word many of us hate. "Adulting" is a horrible fake word (that I can't even write in my Macbook without auto correcting to something else) that people should stop using. It basically implies that becoming an adult isn't a natural part of growing up, but rather a life choice one is skeptical to fully allow to happen.

People in this generation complain so much about "Adulting" because nowadays teenagers don't know what responsibilities are. Unlike our parents' generation, not many have to pay for rent, food or pay for college because it's all handed down to them. Don't get me wrong there's probably still some kids out there that have been raised differently and have no choice but to provide for themselves once they're out of the house. Growing up is starting to become an option to young adults because for many of us, it is.

Yet living at home hasn't stopped us from getting out there and achieving things. I have several friends that still live with their parents and don't have to worry about going to the grocery store after a long day at work and/or school, because their fridge is always full. See, the only worry many of us have is passing those midterms and stressing over getting to class in time. But the only down side to that is, let's be real, college takes up a lot of our time and doesn't really give us time to do "life" things and when we have time we want to be with our friends having fun.

Do you ever sit down and think, "wow if only I could be a kid again?" Being able to go back to having no responsibilities, waking up every Saturday and Sunday having no stress about having to go work or finish that paper that's worth 40% of your mark. But guess what guys? We are no longer kids and are just starting to see what life has to bring.

We're at the peak age of 20-25 where you're going to see people you've graduated high school with start their lives. Whether you see it on social media or hear about it through a friend, the word gets around. Some are going to be starting university, finishing university, having kids, getting engaged, or simply working to pay the rent. That's how life works, people all choose to approach it differently and live their lives in a different matter. See, myself, I chose to go work for a year after I graduated high school and simply live life because I was living with my mom, no rent!! (Great life that was) and later decided to go to Medical Assistant College and did a fast track course that got me my diploma in less than a year. But later a great thing happened to me, that many to this day still say my life is over because of it. I had a baby with my boyfriend (of 3 years) and honestly I'd like to say I've never been happier and living life better than I was before. Don't get me wrong Motherhood is hard as hell but I'll write about that another time.

Moral of the story... Adulting is hard, but it is not impossible if you set your mind to it. Life is a rollercoaster ride and you simply got to hang on tight and take it like a champ. Yes, you're going to want to just lay in bed and not do anything but nothing is accomplished that way. So that being said instead of devaluing ourselves and our generation, we need to know our worth and look at the good things in life. We'll make a lot of mistakes down the road but thats all apart of growing up. So let's leave "Adulting" alone and actually start to act like adults.
